Grant Wood Art Festival

This year marks the 40th annual Grant Wood Art Festival. It honors artist Grant Wood, and his contributions to Iowa culture. Pop culture, too. His American Gothic is probably better known than the Mona Lisa.

A few months back, I shared a poster draft. The final version is on the right. I was also asked to do some signage for the Originals exhibit. On display will be works by Wood, and the faculty and students of the Stone City Art Colony. While it only ran for two summers (1932 and 1933), it was quite the deal. You can read more about it here.

The arrow signage consists of several arrows at different stages of fill-in, when the arrow is completely full, you're done with the tour. A major draw is having all the lithographs Grant Wood created, 19 in all. It is one of the rare occasions when they've all been on display in the same place, at the same time.

The text for the Originals signs was taken from the one used to promote the Stone City Art Colony. Alas, I did not find out the name of it until after I had sent the poster to the printer. But, using it for the exhibit as a tie-in to the Colony helps set it apart.
