A happy little misfire ...

How many of you remember Bob Ross, the painter from public television? He was always putting happy little trees and happy little clouds in his paintings. I have to admit not being a fan when I watched him originally, but, years later, I have joined the cult following.
Now then, what does that have to do with this picture? Well, it was a happy little misfire. I was walking along the banks of the river when I heard this honking. Geese honks, not cars, or I probably wouldn't even be writing this story.

When I walk, I usually have my camera in hand. For some reason, this was not the case on this particular day. I rush to get it out of the bag, turn it on, zoom in, focus, etc. And this was what I got. It wasn't what I was hoping for. I wanted more detail in the geese. However, this image is very minimalist, which I do like.

(In the original image, the geese are more towards the center. With a little judicial cropping, one can put things a little off center to create a bit more visual interest.)

In taking photos, I try as much as possible to crop the image as I arrange the shot. But sometimes shooting from the hip gets results, too!
